Conflicting Writing Dilemma + NaNoWriMo

Guess what day it is. Guess what day it is. It’s Hump Day! Haha, have you seen that Geico commercial with the camel before? In all honesty I miss the old Geico commercials when you didn’t know it was a Geico commercial until the very end, lol.

The year is going by very quickly. 2014 is just around the corner and NaNoWriMo is this Friday! My chapter outlines are still incomplete. Another idea came to my mind and I’m trying to keep it at bay so I won’t set aside my current story. I’m hoping that something will come to me before Friday.

Now to the main course of this entry, what do you think of writing a story about a villain? Of course, this antagonist would eventually become the protagonist. The reason I asked this is because, it’s rare for me to find a story about the villain. I’m not referring to someone that is a bit rambunctious or mischievous. I meant someone that is a true villain. Has there been a book like this before?

I think it would be interesting to make the main protagonist an antagonist first. This story is begging to be written for NaNoWriMo, but I think about my current story and I don’t want to set it to the side. However, I can’t seem to think of any chapter outlines for this story. If you were me, what would you do?

  1. It's really interesting that you mention writing a story about a villain because we were just talking about Death Note! xD Death Note's protagonist Yagami Light is definitely a villain. I also think Jack in Steven King's The Shining, Satan in Milton's Paradise Lost, Richard III in Shakespeare's Richard III, and maybe even Macbeth to a certain extent as well.

If you were to write something like this, I'd definitely be interested in reading it! It's a really interesting take on typical storytelling.^^

Hmmm, if I were you, knowing me, I'd try to do both xD. I'd work on the NaNoWriMo to get the juices flowing, and maybe through that, some chapter outlines would pop up! I'd just switch back and forth because having writer's block toward something sucks! So, I'd just jump right into writing something else for the moment and not force what isn't coming naturally.^^

Good luck! I'm going to have to go back and see what your novel is about, but I definitely find the NaNoWriMo idea to be really interesting!

    1. Haha, we were just discussing Death Note! I forgot about Jack! He was a villain in a way. I've never read that book before, but I love the movie.

I decided that I'll just work on the new idea for now, since it is somewhat a back story for the previous novel. My previous story, I plan to work on that on off and on. Thank you very much!

  2. Do your Nano project and set some time aside to write your villain story. I've been thinking of doing such a story myself because I think villains being the main characters are sorely underdone. Also with my idea I want my villain to stay one. Best of luck and see you at nano.

    1. I decided to write the villain story for NaNo instead XD The ideas were flowing into my mind more so than the other one, but I do agree! There are not too many villain stories out there, especially in the YA genre.

  3. Mmm... I say write both. Your villain story definitely intrigues me, because I don't know how you'll pull off the sympathy vote. :-D

    1. BTW, I'm also planning to write a villain story in the near future. Might even start on it during NaNo.

Maybe we can compare notes. ;-)
