Once Upon the J-Rock of the Dead

I know, I know, it’s a silly title, but I didn’t know how to combine “Once Upon A Time”, “The Walking Dead” and “J-Rock” into a clever title. Sue me T^T

Kyary and her always wacky expressions. XD
Do any of you happen to watch Once Upon A Time or The Walking Dead? I only have a few favorite TV series and these two are at the top of the list. For those that never watched either, allow me to give you a little snippet.

Imagine if Little Red Riding Hood, Prince Charming, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Frankenstein and other assorted fairy tale characters were actually real. Straight from Wikipedia (without spoiling it for anyone), this is the general idea of the series.

The series takes place in a fictional seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, in which the residents are actually characters from various fairy tales that were transported to the “real world” town and robbed of their real memories by the Evil Queen (the queen from Snow White), using a powerful curse obtained from Rumplestiltskin. The residents of Storybrooke have lived an unchanging existence for 28 years, unaware of their own lack of aging. The town’s only hope lies in a bonds-person and bounty hunter named Emma Swan, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who was transported from the fairy tale world before she could be cursed. As such, she is the only person who can break the curse and restore the characters’ lost memories.

Once Upon A Time is in it’s third season. Each episode is about different fairy tale characters. Tonight’s episode was about Hook’s orgin (who happens to be one of my favorite characters, while Prince Charming is my least favorite.) I really want to see him with Emma, but I doubt that will happen because of Henry’s father u.u I give this series a 4½ star out of 5. The reason I give it this rating is because, sometimes there can be some boring episodes. That or some of the characters make horrible decisions or have tunnel vision. Overall, I do like it, but not as much as Walking Dead, which brings us to the next topic.

I’ve been a fan of The Walking Dead since the first episode and it’s becoming more intense as the episodes go on. My favorite character easily is Daryl and Glenn. I’m sure everyone knows what Walking Dead is about, yet it’s not just about zombies. In fact, the zombies are the secondary cast members. The show focuses more on the main characters (Rick, Maggie, Carol and so on) and their interaction. I give this a 5/5 stars. Sometimes I worry my favorite characters will die because the show isn’t following the comic at all, considering Shane died on the first (or second) chapter, but lasted much longer on the TV series.

If you watch both of these shows, which one do you like better.

For those that followed my blog before I deleted my old entries, you may remember me adding videos to the end of each of my entries. Majority of those videos were rock related. I’ll listen to most genres of music, but rock is where my heart is (including 80’s music XD.) I first started to listen j-rock in my year pre-teen years, but thanks to the anime Bleach, I really began listening to it more often. UVERworld was the first j-rock band that I began to like and since then have become my number one favorite band along with Queen. I haven’t come across one song by UVERworld that I dislike. Other bands that I have grown to like are the following:

Scandal
Dir En Grey
One Ok Rock
Kuroyume
the GazettE
Radwimps
That’s just a few (ONE OK ROCK being another favorite along with UVERworld.) Two days ago, I downloaded a few songs of Scandal and Dir En Grey (more DED then Scandal ^^;). One song by Dir EN Grey, I really like. The title of the song is called, “Rinkaku.” I could listen to that song all day, along with “Chizuru” by GazettE and “CORE PRIDE” by “UVERworld.”

Do you listen to j-rock? If so, who is your favorite band and what is your favorite song?

  4. Never heard of j-rock. Wondering how it's different. I'll have to google it. I'm old school. Love my classic rock and grunge. Fave bands: Alice in Chains and The Doors.

    1. J-Rock is just like any other type of rock music, but it's called "j-rock" because it is Japanese rock music. :) I like Alice in Chains also!
