The Insecure Writer's Support Group | March 2017 |

This is my very first post for IWSG. I've always seen the bloggers that I follow joining in, but I have always been the observer and now I'm involved with this blog hop!

For those of you reading this and have no clue what insecure writer's support group is, it's basically when writers post what their insecurities about writing are or perhaps giving encouragement to other fellow writers by answering the month's question.

March 1st Question:
Have you ever pulled out a really old story and rework it? Did it work out?

To be honest, I have so many unfinished manuscripts that it's ridiculous, lol. My really old stories I tend to keep in the dark. BUT! I have thought about reworking on them, but it would simply be too much work, especially with my very first story. It was a 92k YA fantasy and believe when I tell you that it was awful! If I could go back and work on it again, would I? Probably not. That particular story will probably remain hidden in the dark for all eternity, lol. However, I do have one story that I titled "BANDIT" (awful title, I know lol) that I just may decide to one day go back and work on it.

This particular novel is something I have mentioned before on this blog (before I deleted all of my old blog posts) and my author's blog (which is now private). I even had it available for purchase on Amazon, but eventually pulled it off the shelves. I don't know what I would have categorized BANDIT as...maybe YA dystopian coming of age? The thing is now if I were to continue writing that book, people may say it is somewhat similar to LEGEND by Marie Lu, but I started BANDIT before Marie's book came out. It's not too similar, but when it comes to the dystopian aspect and being framed for murder...yeah, lol.

That's probably one of the only stories I would rework on, but I highly doubt that I will anytime soon considering that my current WIP is my sole focus.

You know what...that more I'm thinking about it the more I want to make it a future project, lol.

  1. There are some stories that stay with us long after we've written them...and it becomes almost heartbreaking that nobody else gets to read them. Those are the ones we'll revisit eventually, when the time is right!

  2. You never know! Maybe when you rework it, you'll give it such a unique twist that no one even thinks about that other book.
Welcome to the IWSG! Glad to have you.

  3. Welcome to the IWSG, Mori! I have a ridiculous amount of half-finished manuscripts too. Just keep writing is my mantra. Hang in there. Dust off that old novel and go for it ~ or just strike out there with something new! Just don't give up!

  4. I've got a lot of shelved work. Sometimes I can use snippets of them to make stories. Others are going to stay in the dark.

  5. Writer's should be allowed to change their minds as many times as needed!

  6. Best of luck working on that. I hope it turns out well for you!
I heard a tip once about rewriting a work. Typing each word back in. (Not sure if editing along the way is encouraged or not.)

  7. My first manuscript is still waiting for editing. Mine and a professional. It's hollering for my attention louder than the third book of my trilogy. Shame on me that I don't have it done.

  8. I know how you feel. I'm also working on a book I wrote back on 2010. I've rewritten it so much it's so different from the original. It's turned into sort of a fantasy when it was never one in the first place. New characters, although most of the original are still there. I feel you. Going back to work on something after so long is daunting. Good luck if you decide to try to do so. Hey guess what, this is MY first week writing a post for IWSG too ahha!
