Do You Have A Dream 6 + What is your blogging niche?

Lately, I’ve been stuck in a writer’s block for NaNoWriMo. I’m hoping my progress will improve by sometime this weekend. Currently, I have 5835-word count. I should have way more than that by now, but unfortunately, writer’s block decided to creep in and demolish my plans. However, I don’t plan to give up! I will make it.
Through the power invested in me...I WILL MAKE IT THROUGH NANO!!
Aside from that, recently, I was thinking about the blogging world. What category would I fit in? What is my niche? I mostly blog about my personal life and books, but I have other things that I would like to discuss. Other blogs I follow I noticed they mostly blog about a specific topic, such as, books, beauty and fashion. I’d say maybe five blogs have random entries, similar to myself.

I wondered does that bother bloggers to follow someone that doesn’t stick to a certain topic, or does it even matter? I read somewhere that if you look through your statistics for your blog entries, whichever has the most traffic that is what the readers what to see you blog more about. Sometimes, I fear I may lose readers if I stray from talking about books in favor of other things. Don’t get me wrong, I love books, but often I want to be able to broaden my audience to something else I am quite fond of, such as, anime, manga, music (Japanese, Korean etc), movies and so on. I know I don’t have a heap of commenters on my blog (whenever I do, it’s because I joined a blog fest), but I would like to change things up a bit.

I know that I won’t get a lot of responses regarding this topic, but what are your thoughts on blogging about a specific topic versus just talking about whatever you desire? And what is your blogging niche?

  1. Personally, I wouldn't mind if you talked about other things, but this may be because I'm interested in those things as well.^^ Plus, I followed your blog because I think you are an interesting person and lead an interesting life. Therefore, as long as your blog entries reflect you, I'd be a happy reader. :)

I think as long as your blog is organized and consistent, many readers will be able to judge beforehand whether your blog is something they want to subscribe to. If you make it clear what topics you mainly write about and then follow through with it, you won't have to limit yourself or feel like a slave to your audience.^^

I don't know. Blogging is a sort of art to me, and therefore, I think it is better to do what you want to do. If you want to branch out, I'd say go for it. However, if you are concerned more about readership, I think you may have to compromise a bit. Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear about the writer block. Ganbare!:)

    1. Thank you for commenting! Yeah, I wanted to be able to blog about many other things besides sticking to one subject and was curious as to how other bloggers feel. I decided that I will start blogging on various topics that I like, such as, J-Rock, manga/anime and so on ^^; Thank you once again for your advice!

  2. I mainly blog about books, reading, and me personally: like the movies I see, things I think about, how I'm feeling...etc. I also take part in cover reveals, tours and so on. Try helping more bloggers spread the word on their books and events. I promise you they don't forget. Look at Alex Cavanaugh for the most awesome example. I'm still at less words than you in Nano so you're not alone. Also this is a project that died without a word during Bunowrimo (spelling?) last year. But I'm determined to get Briar's Dilemma finished and also take up some of the wonderful deals offered by sponsors to those who succeed, have you checked it out on the forums. They rock.

With blogging it's up to you but since you want to do a variety of things maybe you can set a schedule. Do anime one a week or month and so on. Hope all my blabbing helps and enjoy your weekend.

    1. No, I haven't checked out the forums yet! I'll try to check them out later today! I actually still haven't had the chance up finish where I left off on NaNo, unfortunately. With only a few more days left until the 31st, I fear I won't be able to complete a 50,000 words, but I am still going to at least try to make it to 35,000. If I can do that I will feel somewhat accomplished for this month. ^^

Yes, your blabbing did help. XD Although, I didn't view it as babbling. I see it as good advice. Thanks! :)

  3. I think since it's your blog it's all up to you in the end, whatever you blog about I think it'll attract the type of followers that like the same things as you. I'm suprised you haven't looked up the different niches for blogging though LOL, I don't think you're a "random" blogger I think you're just a Lifestyle blogger like me =)

Lifestyle bloggers may seem like they talk about random stuff, but they're actually just blogging about their life and the things in it they'd like to share. If you like anime, books, cosplay or whatever that would be a part of your life so you could blog about it. It'd probably be better to look up what it means, but I hope you get my point.

Personally I'd love to see you post about different stuff, I also follow some niche blogs and sometimes get a little tired of seeing the same thing by them which is why I follow so many different blogs. Whatever you do I'll still be following because I think most people follow your blog because they like you as a person and like seeing posts by you.

    1. Haha, yes I have looked up the different niches some time ago, but it was mostly things I didn't blog about, such as beauty, fashion and so on ^^; XD Ah, that's one niche I didn't see. So a "Lifestyle" blogger? Hm, I like that. :)

Thank you for commenting, Momo! ^^

  4. I can't really chime in on the advice portion, since my blog is also very random life stuff. The only connecting thread to my posts is basically - nonsense. But since that's what I feel comfortable with, it works for me.

Don't try to put yourself in a box. There's all that pesky self-contortioning to fit into it. I decided to follow you because I was interested in your views and the topics you listed as your interests.

    1. "Don't try to put yourself in a box" reminds me of a quote I recently retweeted on Twitter. It said, "Don't think outside the box. Think like there is no box." Which is a very good quote and something I can definitely see myself agreeing with it.

      Thank you for commenting! :)

  5. I think it's totally OK to blog about other stuff. I don't do it on my blog, but that has more to do with time management than anything else - I can only manage one post a week, so I make sure it's about writing in some way. I like the suggestion to maybe pick a subject per day of the week - like Manga Monday, Writing Wednesday, etc. That way people who don't like to read about the other stuff can skip those posts (although, who are these people??), and people who like them can read.

Don't worry about NaNo - I'm behind, too!! But even having the goal is making me more productive, so that's a good thing :)

    1. I used to have a day when I would blog about certain topics on a chosen day of the week, but eventually I stopped doing it >_< I realized scheduling myself didn't work out too well.^^; Maybe if I only schedule on day for a topic it would be better opposed to several days always having an assigned topic.

Good luck with NaNo! It's true that it would keep you productive, unless a writer's block decides to creep up behind you, lol.

  6. I like variety. I don't expect a blogger to fit into some niche with every blog post. It's actually more interesting if the blogger switches it up a bit!
